Finding your wedding "look"

Find Your Style

The main reasons for choosing your dress style or "wedding look" should fall under these categories:

1.Where you would like to have your wedding? Is there some element of a wedding dress you must have? Are you traditional (do you care what your family's ethnic/religious values play in your wedding)? Do you care what the groom wants in the ceremony?

BEACH or BARE NATURE QUEEN:
If your dream wedding would take place on the beach, then you and hubby are obviously more laid-back in wedding decisions like attire. You'd rather have your beach surroundings do the talking than the gardenia floating candles. Are you most comfortable in jeans? Do the words “natural glow,” “dreamy scenery,” and “let myself shine through” hit home? Then shoot for off-the-shoulder or strapless skin-baring styles and cool, wispy fabrics. You'll also want to feel comfortable, so make the fabric light or stretchy. Consider tea-length shorter styles, which happen to be in right now. Embellish to the minimum. Oh, and do skip the stilettos.

CLASSIC CHARMER:
Passionate about tradition and something old, something blue? Having a weak spot for classic movies and being sentimentally attached to family heirlooms might make it worth considering a whole theme around an elegant, understated dress style. We’re thinking portrait or bateau necklines with clean, hugging dress lines. Minimal frou- frou. We think you’ll drop jaws in a backless dress. What about adding one gorgeous, delicate jeweled accessory for emphasis?

GLAM MADAM
Does a cocktail reception suit your fancy? What about going for non-traditional wedding theme colors like deep violet and metallics? Like more modern brides, your first dance not might be the endless love waltz. Why not experiment with lux, over-the-top fabrics and structured dress lines, like the mermaid style. Don’t forget to add in extras like sequins or feather hair pins to steal the show!

HOPELESS ROMANTIC
Have you dreamt of that beautiful ball gown dress forever? Imagined your fairytale to take place somewhere in an outdoor dreamy gazebo garden? Chances are you are meant to take on that princess role for your wedding. Lace and brocade are the hallmarks of the princess gown, as well as tulle. You’ll want lots of visual emphasis on the body of the dress, in the form of pearls and elegant beadwork. Something to consider is splurging on a tiara with inlaid crystals as your finishing touch. After all, you’re the princess!

MODERN/MINIMAL BRIDE
Is a wedding veil not one of your musts? You want to turn heads but don't want your dress to take center stage? Look into some sassy styles such as figure-skimming sheaths with modern interpretations on fabric. Experiment with taffeta and silk and inventive dress designs with sashes or ribbons. Take in ideas about new wedding dress shades, like sheer lilac or bronze.
